Shop G9, Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, White River, Mpumalanga
Jhb based Halifax Art has recently moved its business to Nelspruit and merged with the White River Gallery in Casterbridge. Being one of the few visual arts platforms in the Lowveld, the White River Gallery presents predominantly contemporary fine art originating in Nelspruit, White River and surrounds, showcasing the Lowveld as a node of creativity. The gallery also presents broader South African artists, seeking to recognise and celebrate the richness and diversity of art available in a wider South African context.
The gallery hopes to create awareness around the cultural significance of art, allowing our audience to recognise art as a means of expression for social commentary, eliciting thought, debate and dialogue. In addition, we see art as being accessible to all.
We envisage an educational process with our artists and our audience; reaching out to collaborate with other institutions or organisations involved with the upliftment of art.
Finally it is our vision for the gallery to be a place of escape from busy lives, allowing our audiences a transformative experience through engagement with art.
The gallery will showcase conceptual Neslpruit based artist Winston Thekiso, Jhb based Ingrid E Uys, Sue Martin and Andrew Hamlet, and Cape Townian printmakers Laurel Holmes and Noeleen Kleve. Works range from conceptual to representational references to nature, exploring specifically the role of light played in the rendering of images associated with landscape and nature.
