INTETHE presents “Birds of a Feather” for the 2016 Turbine Art Fair
Artists included in this exhibition are award winning wood sculptor Shepherd Ndudzo, winner of the sculpture prize for Fuzhao Province, China, recipient of the 2012 Beijing Biennale sculpture prize and presently working in the OMI New York Artist Residency programme. Lindelani Ngwenya presents his sought after woven copper wire sculptures where the beauty of the colloquial bird is celebrated. Sarah Walters porcelain candlesticks capture South African birds with shimmering glazed feathers and shiny beaks, momentarily at rest.
Marian Hester re-invents the Johannesburg tree landscape with her mood-induced and colour-explosion oil pastel interpretations while Irvin Nkwanyana represents inventive young talent from KZN. Amos Letsoalo interprets feathered friends in Limpopo while Kristin Hua Yang, trained at the Beijing Fine Art Academy and presently working towards her PhD, exhibits her charcoal drawings of anthropomorphic bird interpretations. Mduduzi Xakaza, director of the Durban Art Museum, shows small pastel drawings interpreting ancestral spirituality of the rolling hills of KwaZulu Natal. Gcina Maduna’s Geese at Moroka Dam, Soweto, boast and cackle in their chalk pastel colourful feathery attire.
