David Krut Projects (DKP) is an independent arts resource, which is active in Johannesburg and New York. Its focus is the encouragement of careers in the arts and literature and providing a platform for collaborations in the visual and other creative arts. Our outreach activities support child literacy and arts education. We also endeavour to promote an awareness of African photographers. In Johannesburg we have exhibition project spaces and a bookstore located at 151 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood.  Our professional print workshop – David Krut Workshop (DKW) – is situated at Arts on Main, the major arts hub adjacent to downtown Johannesburg, and was one of the first spaces to opt into the initiative back in 2010. DKW first opened on Jan Smuts Avenue in 2002, when David Krut facilitated in bringing Master Printers from abroad to initiate skills transfer. A selection of special papers and printmaking materials was also imported to assist in developing the printmaking arena in South Africa.

DKW was under the skillful hand of Master Printer Jillian Ross from 2004 until 2020. Today it is equipped with a letterpress, three etching printing presses and a steel-facing tank, and stocked with top quality inks and paper, making it one of the most impressive printmaking workshops in South Africa. Over the last 20 years DKW has collaborated with local and international artists such as William KentridgeDeborah Bell, Diane VictorOlivia Botha, Maaike BakkerHeidi FourieStephen Hobbs, Maja MaljevicPebofatso Mokoena, Helena Uambembe, Anna van der Ploeg, Adele van HeerdenZhi Zulu and more…
